PHOSPHOGLYCERIDES

This group of complex lipids, named also phosphatides, are present in all cell membranes and may be classified into several sub-groups according to their molecular structure.

All are derived from the simplest compound,

Phosphatidic acid and cyclic or pyrophosphate

derivatives

The other phosphoglycerides are presented below:

Phosphoglycerides containing one nitrogenous base

Choline glycerophospholipids

Ethanolamine glycerophospholipids

Serine glycerophospholipids

Threonine glycerophospholipids

Glycine glycerophospholipids

Phosphoglycerides containing two glycerol molecules :

Phosphatidylglycerol

Diphosphatidylglycerol or Cardiolipin

Lysobisphosphatidic acid

Phosphoglycerides containing inositol:

Phosphoinositides
